GM Recalls Chevy Equinox EV AWD Over Adaptive Cruise Control Issue

General Motors (GM) has announced a recall of nearly 3,000 2025 Chevy Equinox EV AWD models due to a defect in the adaptive cruise control system.

The recall, disclosed in a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday, highlights issues with the brake system control module (BSCM) software that could prevent the vehicle from braking as intended.

According to GM, an incorrect software calibration in the BSCM is causing the adaptive cruise control feature to fail to engage the brakes properly, posing a potential safety risk.

The defect was first flagged in October when an engineer reported a test vehicle that did not stop as expected during routine evaluations. GM initiated an investigation on November 8, 2024, uncovering that the software issue affected certain AWD models.

The recall specifically targets 2025 Chevy Equinox EV AWD models without GM’s Super Cruise system. Other configurations, including FWD and AWD models equipped with Super Cruise, are not impacted. GM has assured affected customers that dealers will update the software calibration at no cost, with owner notifications expected to be sent by March 3, 2025.

This is the second recall involving the Equinox EV in recent months. In December, GM recalled over 7,600 units due to a pedestrian alert system that failed to meet noise requirements.

Despite these setbacks, the Chevy Equinox EV remains popular, ranking as the eighth best-selling electric vehicle in the U.S. last year, with nearly 29,000 units sold. With the recent launch of the lower-priced LT trim starting at $35,000, the model is positioned for continued growth in the EV market.
