Xiaomi is set to officially launch its high-performance SU7 Ultra electric vehicle in the coming days, with a potential surprise—a two-seat variant. The latest regulatory filings from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) indicate that the SU7 Ultra has been included in a catalog of configuration changes, with public feedback open from February 20-26. Regulatory approval is one of the last steps before a model can be sold in China.
The filing reveals a key modification: the SU7 Ultra will now be available with either a five-seat or a two-seat layout, departing from its original five-seat configuration.

Additionally, new tire size options have been registered, suggesting possible performance adjustments. The two-seat variant hints at Xiaomi’s intent to position the SU7 Ultra as a more track-focused electric supercar.

Xiaomi first introduced the SU7 Ultra at a product launch event on October 29, 2024, with pre-sales starting at RMB 814,900 ($111,870). The model was initially slated for a March 2025 release, but on February 5, Xiaomi’s founder and CEO Lei Jun stated on RedNote that the vehicle would be unveiled alongside the Xiaomi 15 Ultra smartphone at the end of February.

While no official launch date has been confirmed, local reports suggest the SU7 Ultra could debut on February 27. Lei also set a sales target of 10,000 units for 2025.

Xiaomi has emphasized the SU7 Ultra’s performance credentials, with the company announcing last October that a prototype completed a Nürburgring lap in 6 minutes, 46.874 seconds, setting a record for four-door cars.

More recently, Xiaomi EV tested the model at four domestic racetracks, claiming it achieved the fastest lap times at each location. The addition of a two-seat version could further solidify the SU7 Ultra’s positioning as a high-performance electric sports car.
