Nio has filed for minor exterior updates on four of its best-selling models—the ES6 SUV, EC6 coupe SUV, ET5 sedan, and ET5 Touring—signaling an upcoming facelift. The changes were listed in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s (MIIT) latest regulatory catalog, which is open for public feedback from February 20-26. Inclusion in this catalog is one of the final steps before a model is cleared for sale in China.
The updates focus primarily on aesthetic refinements rather than major mechanical upgrades. The four models appear in MIIT’s information change filing catalog, suggesting that their core components, including batteries and motors, will remain unchanged.
The most noticeable alterations include redesigned front bumpers, with the fog lamp areas shifting from a triangular shape to a vertical bar. Additionally, the EC6, ET5, and ET5 Touring will offer an optional “Champion Edition” rear logo and an extra matte black exterior color, typically associated with performance models, hinting at potential powertrain enhancements.
These four models are crucial to Nio’s sales performance, accounting for 81.1% of the company’s total deliveries in 2024. The ES6 led the lineup with 75,433 units delivered, representing 33.98% of Nio Inc’s total sales.

Nio CEO William Li previously confirmed that these models would receive both exterior and interior updates, including the introduction of horizontal center screens and the company’s proprietary Shenji autonomous driving chip. Li also noted that Nio plans to launch new products in each quarter from Q2 to Q4 2024, reinforcing its strategy of continuous model refinement.
