BYD is preparing to expand its Ocean lineup with the Sealion 08, a mid-to-large-size SUV available with battery-electric (EV) and DM-i plug-in hybrid powertrains. The model combines BYD’s latest battery, hybrid, chassis and driver-assistance technologies.
According to information available through BYD’s mobile app, pre-sales prices for the plug-in hybrid variants range from 230,000 yuan ($33,900) to 260,000 yuan, while EV variants are priced from 250,000 yuan to 280,000 yuan.
Dimensions and Platform
The Sealion 08 measures 5,115 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,800 mm in height. Its wheelbase stretches 3,030 mm, positioning it in the mid-to-large-size SUV segment.
All versions are equipped with several of BYD’s flagship technologies, including the second-generation Blade Battery, cell-to-body (CTB) integration and flash charging. The plug-in hybrid models also use BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid system.
EV Specifications
The battery-electric Sealion 08 will be offered with 92.093-kWh and 115.072-kWh battery packs.
Depending on the configuration, the EV is listed with CLTC driving ranges of 710 km, 800 km and 900 km. The different range figures are linked to the available battery and powertrain configurations.

Single-motor EV variants will have maximum outputs of 320 kW or 370 kW. The dual-motor version combines a 215-kW front motor with a 370-kW rear motor.
DM-i Plug-In Hybrid Specifications
The plug-in hybrid Sealion 08 uses a dedicated 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a maximum output of 115 kW.
The DM-i variants offer WLTC battery-only ranges of 275 km and 300 km, while the maximum CLTC battery-only range reaches up to 400 km.
The single-motor plug-in hybrid version has a maximum output of 200 kW. The dual-motor configuration uses 200-kW motors on both the front and rear axles.
Chassis and Driver-Assistance Technology
The Sealion 08 is equipped with rear-wheel steering, BYD’s DiSus-A intelligent body control system and a dual-chamber air suspension.

The SUV also features a road-preview system designed to provide information about road conditions ahead. For driver assistance, BYD is equipping the model with its God’s Eye 5.0 advanced driver-assistance system.
Position in BYD’s Ocean Lineup
The Sealion 08 is the second of two flagship models planned for BYD’s Ocean lineup. Its sister model, the Seal 08 sedan, was launched on July 2 with a starting price of 196,900 yuan.
With both EV and plug-in hybrid powertrains, multiple battery configurations and high-output motor options, the Sealion 08 is positioned as a higher-end SUV within BYD’s Ocean range. Its combination of long electric range, advanced chassis hardware and driver-assistance technology will make it one of the more technologically focused models in the lineup.
