BYD has officially launched the flash charging edition of the Denza N9 luxury SUV in China as the company expands adoption of its latest fast-charging platform across its vehicle lineup.

The large plug-in hybrid SUV starts at 409,800 yuan ($60,260), below the 450,000 yuan starting pre-sales price announced last month.

The Denza N9 flash charging edition is offered in three trim levels priced at 409,800 yuan, 439,800 yuan and 469,800 yuan respectively.

The vehicle’s main upgrade is the integration of BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and the company’s newest flash charging technology across all variants.

The plug-in hybrid model uses a 75.3-kilowatt-hour battery pack and delivers a CLTC-rated pure electric range of up to 420 kilometres.

BYD said the vehicle’s combined driving range reaches 1,520 kilometres when fully fueled and charged.

According to company data, the charging system can replenish the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes, while charging from 10% to 97% takes approximately nine minutes.

BYD also said charging times increase by only three minutes under extreme temperatures of minus 30 degrees Celsius.

The automaker plans to expand deployment of its flash charging stations across China and aims to provide station coverage within a three-kilometre radius in tier-one and tier-two cities by the end of 2026.

The Denza N9 flash charging edition combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with three electric drive motors producing a combined output of 680 kilowatts, equivalent to 912 horsepower.

Maximum torque is rated at 1,035 Newton metres, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 3.7 seconds.

The model also comes equipped with BYD’s e3 technology platform and DiSus-A body control system, supporting features such as intelligent crab walking, compass turns and advanced steering functions.

BYD said the SUV includes the latest version of its God’s Eye 5.0 intelligent driving assistance system, which incorporates reinforcement learning capabilities alongside an end-to-end AI model.

Inside the cabin, the vehicle features a 17.3-inch central display, two 13.2-inch screens for the instrument cluster and front passenger, a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display and an audio system from Devialet.

The launch comes shortly after Denza marked production of its 500,000th vehicle, which was the N9 flash charging edition.

The new model highlights intensifying competition among Chinese automakers in the premium electrified SUV segment, particularly around battery technology, charging speed and intelligent driving systems.
