BYD has officially launched the Seal 08, the flagship sedan in its Ocean lineup and the first model from the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer to offer standard flash-charging capability across both its battery-electric and plug-in hybrid variants.
The Seal 08 went on sale with six variants, carrying a starting price of 196,900 yuan (approximately US$29,030). The model made its global debut in March and represents one of BYD’s key products in its push into the premium vehicle segment during 2026.
Six Variants Across Two Powertrains
The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) lineup includes three versions. The 400 km Premium starts at 196,900 yuan, the 400 km Flagship is priced at 206,900 yuan, and the 350 km All-Wheel-Drive Flagship is available from 229,900 yuan.
The battery-electric (BEV) lineup also offers three models. The 775 km Premium starts at 196,900 yuan, while the 905 km Flagship costs 216,900 yuan. The range-topping 785 km All-Wheel-Drive Flagship is priced at 239,900 yuan.
To support the launch, BYD is providing 12 months of complimentary flash charging for buyers. The company is also offering one year of coverage for safety-related incidents and losses arising during city navigation-assisted driving and intelligent parking functions.
Long Range and High-Speed Charging
The Seal 08 measures 5,150 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,505 mm in height, with a 3,030 mm wheelbase. It adopts BYD’s Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 design language, featuring a streamlined fastback profile.
Every version comes equipped with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery.
The all-electric models are built on an 800-volt electrical architecture, providing a maximum CLTC driving range of 905 kilometers. Under ideal conditions, the vehicle can gain 400 kilometers of driving range in just five minutes using flash charging technology.
The plug-in hybrid versions combine a dedicated 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with an electric drivetrain, offering up to 400 kilometers of electric-only CLTC range and a combined driving range of 1,660 kilometers.
Performance and Driver Assistance
The dual-motor all-wheel-drive electric variant produces 510 kW (approximately 634 horsepower) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds.
The all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid completes the same sprint in 3.8 seconds.
All Seal 08 models come standard with the LiDAR-equipped God’s Eye B intelligent driving assistance system. Features include City Navigation on Autopilot (CNOA), Highway Navigation on Autopilot (HNOA), and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB).
The sedan also features rear-wheel steering across the entire lineup, enabling a minimum turning radius of 4.95 meters, one of the smallest in its vehicle class.
Higher-specification variants are fitted with DiSus-A closed dual-chamber air suspension, which includes road preview capability to improve ride comfort and handling.
Premium Interior
Inside, the Seal 08 is equipped with dual front zero-gravity seats, while all seats offer heating, ventilation, and massage functions to enhance passenger comfort.
The launch comes as BYD continues to strengthen its sales momentum following the transition from its first-generation Blade Battery to the new flash charging-compatible second-generation battery technology, a change that had temporarily extended delivery times for several of the company’s major models earlier this year.
