The Squad Solar City Car is the world’s first for daily urban mobility powered by solar energy. Launched in the middle of last year, this car is a solution for minimizing emissions and urban congestion, designed for platform sharing and personal use. Easy as a moped with the comfort and safety of a car.
Squad is a two-seater car with small solar panels on the roof. This golf cart style vehicle can cover a distance of up to 96.5 km on a single full charge.
Squad automatically charges its batteries with solar energy from solar panels on its own roof. Offers convenience without the use of cables when charging the battery, it will be automatically charged throughout the day when stopping or even driving.
The Dutch company, Squad Mobility, makes this 2-passenger vehicle for daily use. The solar panels can charge up to 20 km per day, with an average micro car using around 12 km per day.
Solar panels work in any light, also in the shade. The vehicle is powered by an electric motor and battery so it also works at night, in winter or indoors. When extra range is needed, the portable battery can be charged directly from a regular power outlet.
The propulsion consists of two 4 kWh rear-wheel motors powered by four interchangeable 1.6kWh batteries. Capable of being driven up to speeds of 48 kph to 70 kph (depending on battery settings), equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels, seat belts and aluminum tubular chassis as a safety function.
It has 2 variants, namely the L6 with 2 seats and the L7 for two passengers with the addition of an extra 2 small seats.
Design Squad is focused on safety, comfort, low maintenance and durability in urban use. The use of recycled materials is maximized, interestingly in the Netherlands no driver’s license is required for this car.
Having a length of 2 meters, a width of 1.2 meters and a height of 1.6 meters makes this car easy to find a parking space. With a weight of around 356 kg, it is claimed to have good stability due to its width and low center of gravity, as well as a high seating position providing good visibility to the traffic in front of it. This tiny car costs around $ 6,250.
