Polestar, the electric vehicle brand backed by Volvo, said it is prioritizing its upcoming Polestar 7 compact crossover and a second-generation Polestar 2 over the previously announced Polestar 6 roadster.
The Polestar 6, originally confirmed as a production version of the O2 Roadster Concept, was expected to share its powertrain with the Polestar 5. However, the company is focusing on models it expects will achieve higher sales volumes.
Polestar chief executive Michael Lohscheller told Autocar: “It will have all the Polestar DNA with the right driving characteristics, chassis tuning, and we will bring all these ideas together in a sustainable way.”
He added the Polestar 7’s design will “adopt a more familiar SUV shape to other vehicles from the brand, but at the same time, it will be distinguished and really stand out.”
Lohscheller also said the smaller crossover is intended to broaden Polestar’s appeal, particularly among female buyers: “Currently [we have] many, many more male customers than females.”
The Polestar 7 will be built at Volvo’s plant in Kosice, Slovakia, and will feature electric motors developed in-house. Details on the second-generation Polestar 2 remain limited.
The current model, first introduced in 2019, recently received minor updates for the 2026 model year but is otherwise largely unchanged.
