BAK Battery, a Chinese battery manufacturer, is set to construct a factory for cylindrical cell production with an annual capacity of 30 gigawatt-hours. The facility, which will also include a research and development center, will receive an investment of 13 billion yuan (approximately 1.8 billion euros).
The complex will occupy a 300,000 square meter area in the city of Changzhou, Jiangsu province, however, a timeline for construction has not been disclosed yet.

The cylindrical cells that will be produced at the facility are currently unknown. In 2021, BAK Battery presented a 4680 cylindrical cell, and the company’s WeChat account mentions their active promotion and development of large cylindrical batteries since then, indicating that the plant is likely for 4680 cell production.
The 4680 cell was reported to have a capacity of 25 ampere-hours (Ah) in early 2021, while the 18650 cell only had 3 Ah. No further details on cell chemistry have been released.
