Traktionssysteme Austria (TSA) will supply 1,500 high-performance electric motors to Polish bus manufacturer Solaris over the next three years under a framework agreement signed in June 2024, the Austrian motor specialist announced on Thursday.
The contract covers TSA’s permanent magnet synchronous motors of type HD.T3, which offer a peak output of 420 kW, maximum torque of 4,000 Nm, and efficiency exceeding 97 percent. Designed for compact integration, the motors are suitable for various bus configurations and can be used in both battery-electric and fuel cell-powered models.

Solaris will install the T3 motors in its 12-, 15-, and 18-meter electric buses. The design, developed with input from TSA, adopts a modular architecture that removes the need for a traditional motor tower, allowing battery placement exclusively on the roof and expanding usable passenger space, according to the company.
The first batch of five motors was delivered in December 2024 for Solaris’ Urbino 18 Electric buses operating in Sweden.

TSA is also expanding its manufacturing capabilities to accommodate growing demand. The company plans to invest approximately €35 million into its main production site in Wiener Neudorf, Austria, with part of the funds allocated to automation and advanced manufacturing technologies.
“By 2030, we will invest approximately €1.3 million in cutting-edge production technologies and our newly repurposed Plant 2 in Wiener Neudorf, which is now dedicated to manufacturing our ROAD motors,” TSA CEO Robert Tencl said. “There is a tremendous interest in our products, particularly in the commercial road vehicle sector. We are receiving numerous inquiries from across Europe and the United States.”
