Norwegian bus operator Vy Buss has placed an order for three Solaris Urbino 9 LE electric buses, marking the model’s debut in Norway. The electric midibuses will enter service in Slemmestad, a suburb of Oslo, in July 2025, Polish manufacturer Solaris said in a statement.
The Urbino 9 LE electric, a nine-meter-long bus introduced in 2021, is the shortest electric model in Solaris’ lineup. The vehicle features a central electric motor with a peak output of 220 kW and is powered by batteries with a capacity of up to 350 kWh.

Charging is typically done via a plug, while a pantograph option is also available. However, Vy Buss has not disclosed the chosen charging configuration.
The buses ordered by Vy Buss will be equipped with a ‘Scandinavian package,’ which includes additional thermal insulation, a snow chain drawer, and anti-elk lights designed to prevent collisions with wildlife.
“Norway has had success for many years with the diesel version of Solaris Urbino 8.9 LE, a perfect bus for countryside travel and smaller towns. Now, we aim for the new 9 LE electric to be just as successful and are proud to introduce this bus to the Norwegian market together with Vy,” said Sverre Skaar, CEO of Solaris Norge AS.
