Tesla is introducing enhancements to the Steer-by-Wire system in its Cybertruck, further refining the vehicle’s steering feel and driver experience, the company said in a software update rolling out with version 2025.8.4.
The Cybertruck remains the only Tesla model equipped with Steer-by-Wire, a system that eliminates the traditional mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels. Unlike conventional electric power steering, which relies on a steering column, Steer-by-Wire electronically controls wheel movement. This approach enhances maneuverability, particularly in tight spaces, despite the Cybertruck’s large size.

The latest update will introduce more realistic feedback from the steering system by adapting to road surface conditions. “The steering wheel now gives you more realistic feedback, adapting to different road surfaces for a better driving experience,” Tesla stated, according to Not a Tesla App.
The update aligns the Cybertruck’s steering response with road conditions, improving driver awareness and control. Tesla’s Steer-by-Wire system differs from those in other electric pickups, such as the Hummer EV and Silverado EV, which use the technology only on their rear wheels while retaining a traditional steering column for front-wheel control.

In addition to the steering enhancements, Tesla is also enabling Cybertruck owners to adjust the vehicle’s air suspension ride height remotely via the Tesla App, adding another layer of customization to the driving experience.
