SWTCH Energy, a prominent provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging and energy management solutions, has been selected to manage one of Washington State’s largest multi-family EV charging deployments. The initiative will see SWTCH Energy’s smart charging platform overseeing 2,500 charging stations across 136 Greystar properties, significantly enhancing the accessibility and convenience of EV charging for thousands of residents.
This large-scale deployment is supported by a $25.6 million grant from the Washington Department of Commerce’s Electric Vehicle Charging Program. The grant aims to address the growing need for accessible EV charging infrastructure as adoption rates increase in the state. As part of the initiative, SWTCH Energy’s platform will optimize the efficiency of the charging process, offering property managers real-time tools to effectively manage the stations.

The charging hardware for the project is being supplied by Wallbox, while COIL will be responsible for the installation of the charging stations. The project is particularly significant as it seeks to overcome a key barrier to EV adoption: the lack of at-home charging options for residents in multi-family housing units. By providing this infrastructure, the initiative will help make sustainable transportation more accessible to a wider range of residents.

As EV adoption continues to surge across Washington, the need for robust charging infrastructure in multi-family communities is more pressing than ever. With many residents in such communities unable to charge their vehicles at home, this deployment marks a pivotal step in advancing transportation electrification across the state.

“We are proud to support Greystar in advancing Washington State’s vision of making EV charging accessible for all residents,” said Jeremy Cohen, Director of Real Estate Partnerships at SWTCH Energy. “The transition to electric vehicles should not be limited by where you live, and this collaboration brings us closer to that goal.”
Gavin Shearer, Construction Manager at Greystar, expressed similar sentiments, adding: “Our partnership with SWTCH Energy made it possible to offer reliable charging solutions to our residents, helping to bring sustainable transportation to more communities.” The project is set to play a significant role in Washington’s efforts to create an inclusive EV charging network and further promote the adoption of electric vehicles.
