Dutch truck manufacturer DAF is displaying an expanded range of battery-electric trucks at IAA Transportation 2026, including the XG Electric and XG+ Electric for long-haul applications and new configurations for construction and special-purpose operations.
The trucks are being presented at DAF’s stand in Hall 21. The XG+ Electric is the larger-cab version of the two long-haul models, while the wider electric portfolio includes 6×2, 6×4 and 8×4 configurations.
XG Electric And XG+ Electric
The XG Electric and XG+ Electric use modular electric powertrains with Paccar electric motors producing up to 350 kW.
The trucks can be configured with between three and five LFP battery packs, depending on the selected motor and customer requirements. Battery capacity ranges from 315 kWh to 525 kWh.
The system supports charging at up to 325 kW, while an optional 22-kW AC onboard charger is available. Depending on configuration, DAF states that the trucks can achieve up to 500 kilometres of range.
The XG+ Electric differs primarily in its larger cab, which provides additional standing height and a larger sleeping area.
New Electric Construction Configurations
DAF is also introducing several battery-electric configurations aimed at construction and other specialised applications.
The new 6×2 electric tractor units are available with steered front or rear axles. DAF says these configurations are intended for heavy distribution applications where payload and manoeuvrability are relevant.
A 6×2 truck with a dual-tyred 10-tonne rear axle is designed for applications including tipper bodies and swap bodies.
For construction applications, DAF is introducing 6×4 and 8×4 electric models with driven tandem axles. The two configurations have 19-tonne and 21-tonne axle loads, respectively, and are available with either single-reduction or hub-reduction axles.
Electric Chassis For BDF Swap Bodies
For BDF swap-body applications in Germany, DAF has developed 4×2 and 6×2 chassis with a dedicated battery arrangement.
The chassis can accommodate up to five battery packs. According to DAF, the configuration provides access to the twistlocks and is compatible with BDF swap containers while maintaining the vehicle’s available range.
Payload And Battery Positioning
DAF is also highlighting the payload characteristics of its electric truck range.
The company says its XD, XF, XG and XG+ Electric models can provide up to 500 kilograms more payload than comparable DAF diesel trucks. The difference is attributed to the additional gross weight permitted for electric trucks and the distribution of vehicle components.
DAF is displaying another battery configuration at IAA Transportation in which no battery pack is positioned beneath the cab. Instead, four packs are installed farther toward the rear of the vehicle.
The manufacturer says this arrangement reduces the front-axle load by approximately 700 kilograms and can increase payload capacity by up to 2.5 tonnes.
DAF’s Electric Truck Strategy
The expanded lineup gives DAF electric configurations across several commercial vehicle applications, including long-haul transport, regional distribution, construction and swap-body operations.
