Tech giant Sony Group is reportedly working on a new self-driving sensor for electric cars. This autonomous driving system is claimed to save battery power consumption by up to 70 percent compared to the current self-driving system.

Electric vehicles are very dependent on software. Generally, software and sensors have a large power consumption and will have an impact on the range.

Sony said it would pair its significant power-efficient electric car self-driving sensors with software developed by Japan’s largest autonomous driving systems company, Tier IV.

In addition, Sony will also incorporate image recognition and radar technology into autonomous driving sensors to reduce the impact of extreme weather conditions on electric vehicles.

Sony’s development of self-driving electric car technology is an important step in the electric vehicle industry. In fact, recently, Sony collaborated with Honda Motor Company to form a joint venture company called Sony Honda Mobility Inc.

The Sony and Honda companies are focused on developing and selling high value-added electric cars. Sony’s self-driving sensors may also be embedded in Honda’s electric cars.
