Sophisticated, Baidu made a revolutionary step by making this car able to be without a steering wheel, because the steering wheel can be disassembled.
This steering-free design provides more room for the installation of extra seating or other additions, even game consoles to vending machines.
Apollo RT6 uses level 4 autonomous technology. This means that this car does not need human intervention at all when operating. This car is equipped with 8 LIDAR units and 12 cameras mounted on the front, rear, right and left sides of the car.
LIDAR itself is a detection system that works like radar. This technology relies on infrared light instead of radio waves.
Baidu’s vice president, Li Zhenyu, said that Apollo RT6 will be operated on the highway after obtaining permission from the Chinese government. He claims the Apollo RT6 has the equivalent of an adult who has driven a car for 20 years.
Baidu’s self-driving car costs around 250,000 yuan, down drastically from the price tag of its predecessor, which sold for 480,000 yuan.
