American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Rivian has commenced the rollout of its latest software update, version 2024.35, which aims to enhance safety for drivers, passengers, and their gear.
This update follows closely on the heels of Rivian’s previous significant software enhancement and includes a host of new features designed to bolster security and improve user experience. Notably, Rivian has also teased a new front lighting theme inspired by the iconic Knight Rider series, set to debut in time for Halloween.
The 2024.35 update is available for all generations of Rivianâs flagship R1T pickup and R1S SUV, focusing primarily on safety improvements. One of the standout features is the introduction of a live Gear Guard Cam, which integrates with the vehicle’s existing security system that comprises high-resolution cameras and physical cables for securing gear.
With this new update, Rivian owners can now access a live feed from their Gear Guard cameras directly through the Rivian app, provided they have a Connect+ subscription. This feature allows users to respond quickly to alarm notifications by viewing real-time footage from their cameras.
In response to customer feedback, Rivian has also enhanced its adaptive beam driving technology. Building on the Adaptive High Beams introduced in its 2025 models last month, this update allows for stable light diffusion from the carâs headlights, improving visibility on dark, uneven terrains. This advancement aims to ensure that drivers have a clear line of sight, enhancing overall safety during nighttime driving.
Additionally, the update brings a revamped climate control system. While previous Rivian models featured two climate zones for the driver and front passenger, the latest update introduces a third climate zone for the second- and third-row passenger seats. This enhancement allows rear passengers to personalize their comfort with temperature adjustments accessible via the rear display in the second row.
Rivianâs 2024.35 software update also includes new display animations that help drivers visualize changes to ride height, brake regeneration, stability, and ride feel settings across various driving modes. Each time drivers modify a setting, the new animation will provide visual feedback on how these changes affect vehicle performance.
On a lighter note, Rivian has begun teasing an exciting headlamp feature that pays homage to the classic Knight Rider series. Set to launch in October, this feature will transform Rivianâs vehicles into all-electric versions of K.I.T.T., further enhancing the playful aspect of the brand.
