Maextro, a new automotive brand formed by Huawei and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC), is set to launch its first model, the Maextro S800, at the end of May, the companies announced on Tuesday. The luxury sedan will debut at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show in Shenzhen.
Richard Yu, managing director of Huawei and chairman of its smart car solutions unit, said the Maextro S800 will be available in both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) versions. “This model incorporates advanced intelligence and safety features while offering a luxury driving experience,” Yu said at a company event, which was broadcast live.

The Maextro S800 is designed with a length of 5,480 mm, a width of 2,000 mm, and a height of 1,536 mm, with a wheelbase measuring 3,370 mm. Both the EREV and BEV versions will be available in four-seat and five-seat configurations.
The EREV model features an 800V high-voltage battery with a capacity of 65 kWh, supporting 6C fast charging that enables a 10 percent to 80 percent charge in 10.5 minutes. The BEV version is equipped with a 5C battery that achieves the same charge level in 12 minutes, according to the company.

Yu highlighted the model’s safety and intelligent driving capabilities, stating that the vehicle can detect and respond to road conditions in 50 to 200 milliseconds. “In challenging weather conditions, such as rain and snow, the Maextro S800 can anticipate skidding risks and increase emergency avoidance speeds up to 80 kilometers per hour,” he said. The model is built on an L3 autonomous driving platform and is equipped with 32 sensors, including four LiDARs, for enhanced situational awareness.
Despite its size, the Maextro S800 features rear-wheel steering that reduces its turning radius to 5.05 meters, making it more maneuverable than smaller vehicles. “It offers the agility of a compact car despite being a full-sized luxury sedan,” Yu noted.
