Hyundai’s Inster EV, the company’s most affordable electric SUV, has quickly gained popularity in Germany, emerging as the best-selling small electric car in the country during the first half of 2025. The compact SUV recorded over 1,130 new registrations in July alone, bringing its total registrations in Germany to approximately 6,300 for the first seven months of the year.
“We’re delighted that Germany’s best-selling electric small car is a Hyundai,” said Ulrich Mechau, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Germany. He added that the Inster EV hits the right balance of affordability and performance, meeting growing demand for cost-effective electric mobility.

Hyundai’s strong performance in the German market contributed to the automaker ranking third among importers, with electric vehicles making up 28% of Hyundai’s registrations in Germany through July — significantly higher than the overall market share of 17.5%.
Priced from 23,900 euros ($28,000), the Inster EV offers a driving range of up to 370 kilometers (230 miles) under the WLTP standard, fast charging capability from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes, and features such as vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology.

In the wider European market, the Inster EV was the 19th best-selling electric vehicle in June 2025, surpassing competitors like the Dacia Spring and Toyota bZ4X.
While Hyundai markets the Inster EV as the Casper Electric in South Korea, the model is not currently slated for launch in the U.S. Instead, U.S. customers seeking an affordable EV can consider the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which posted its best U.S. sales month in July with 5,818 units sold and is available for lease starting at $179 per month.
