Honda has expanded its Ye Series electric vehicle lineup with the debut of two new GT models at Auto Shanghai, developed through its Chinese joint ventures with Dongfeng and GAC.
The vehicles serve as flagship EVs for each partnership and represent Honda’s efforts to accelerate time-to-market by leveraging local innovation in China.

Although both models share the GT designation, the Dongfeng Honda GT and GAC Honda GT differ in design, with each tailored to reflect the distinct brand identities of the respective joint ventures. Both vehicles adopt a low and wide stance, highlighting Honda’s intention to deliver high-performance EVs for the Chinese market.
The launch builds on Honda’s unveiling of the Ye Series at Auto China in Beijing last year, which introduced the Ye P7 and Ye S7. Those models were the first to feature Honda’s newly developed EV platform.

The Dongfeng Honda GT appears to be based on the earlier Ye GT Concept, which previewed the brand’s approach to performance-oriented electric design.
Honda did not release technical specifications for the new GT models but confirmed a collaboration with battery manufacturer CATL. The partnership aims to develop a new EV platform that integrates battery cells directly into the vehicle structure and to jointly create a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for future Ye Series vehicles.

It remains unclear if Honda’s Ye Series will adopt CATL’s recently introduced Shenxing battery, which supports high-speed charging capabilities and could offer significant improvements in energy replenishment, depending on battery size and configuration.
As part of its localization strategy, Honda plans to incorporate more Chinese-developed technologies into its future EVs. This includes partnerships with local firms such as Momenta for AI-powered driver assistance systems that do not rely on high-definition maps, and DeepSeek for in-car infotainment integration. Honda intends to include these systems in upcoming Ye models, with current models receiving updates via over-the-air upgrades.
