Huawei-backed automotive brand Stelato has opened pre-sales for the G9, its first luxury off-road sport utility vehicle (SUV), as the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) expands into the premium rugged vehicle segment.
The G9 was unveiled during the same event where fellow HIMA brand Maextro launched its V680 and V800 premium multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs). Official sales are scheduled to begin in the third quarter.
The Stelato G9 starts at 439,800 yuan ($64,780).
Designed Around Level 3 Autonomous Driving
Huawei describes the Stelato G9 as the industry’s first luxury off-road SUV developed on a native Level 3 autonomous driving architecture.
The model also debuts Huawei’s all-terrain Tuling platform, together with several new technologies including an 800-volt fully active disconnecting stabilizer bar, an adaptive differential-lock electric drive system, and a vehicle-to-vehicle communication system.
The SUV is also the first vehicle to receive a Beijing road-testing permit for Level 3 autonomous driving at speeds of up to 120km/h.
Driver-assistance features include Huawei’s latest-generation LiDAR sensors, the Huawei ADS 5 intelligent driving system and what the company describes as the industry’s first circular assisted-driving status indicator.
Off-Road Capability Takes Center Stage
The G9 combines luxury features with dedicated off-road hardware.
Its suspension uses a front double-wishbone and rear five-link configuration, complemented by centrally supplied dual-chamber air springs.
The vehicle also supports rear-wheel steering of up to 12 degrees in both directions, improving maneuverability on and off the road.
Huawei has equipped the SUV with an intelligent terrain recognition system capable of identifying road conditions and automatically adjusting suspension settings to suit different driving environments.
The Stelato G9 offers a standard ground clearance of 202mm, which can be increased to 282mm through its adaptive air suspension.
The suspension provides 80mm of upward adjustment and 50mm of downward travel, while the vehicle is capable of wading through water up to 900mm deep.
Two Powertrain Choices
The Stelato G9 is available as both a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV).
All versions feature an 800-volt high-voltage electrical architecture and dual-motor all-wheel drive.
The front electric motor produces 160kW, while the rear motor delivers 277kW, giving the system a combined output of 437kW (586hp).
The battery-electric version is equipped with a 120kWh ternary lithium battery, providing a CLTC driving range of 728 kilometres.
The extended-range model combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged range extender with a 75.4kWh battery pack, delivering a 405-kilometre CLTC electric-only range and a combined driving range exceeding 1,366 kilometres.
Large SUV with Practical Features
The G9 measures 5,206mm long, 2,050mm wide and 1,897mm high, with a 3,160mm wheelbase.
An optional rear-mounted storage box increases overall vehicle length to 5,377mm.
The SUV is available in both five-seat (2+3) and six-seat (2+2+2) configurations and has a maximum towing capacity of 2,000kg, broadening its appeal for outdoor and recreational use.
Expanding the HIMA Portfolio
Stelato is jointly developed by Huawei and Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group).
Before the arrival of the G9, the brand’s lineup consisted of the S9 sedan and S9T station wagon.
The G9 marks Stelato’s entry into the luxury off-road SUV segment while further expanding Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance, which also includes Aito, Luxeed, Maextro and Shangjie as the technology company continues building a broad portfolio of intelligent new energy vehicles.
