Lubi Industries has been awarded a major contract by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to manufacture, supply, install, and commission 1,400 fast DC chargers across India.
The 60kW chargers will be installed at BPCL’s retail outlets, contributing significantly to the country’s expanding EV infrastructure. The 1,400 chargers are expected to form a substantial part of India’s growing network of fast chargers, supporting the surge in electric vehicle (EV) adoption.
Electric car sales in India saw remarkable growth in 2024, with 99,004 units sold, marking a 20% increase compared to the previous year. This surge in sales reflects the growing consumer demand for electric vehicles, fueled by the availability of more affordable, locally manufactured models. While electric cars are gaining momentum, India’s electric vehicle market is still largely dominated by two-wheelers, with electric buses also becoming more prominent on the streets.
The 1,400 fast chargers being installed by Lubi Industries will play a pivotal role in supporting India’s rapidly growing EV ecosystem. This move aligns with BPCL’s ongoing efforts to expand its EV charging network, a commitment reinforced by the 2021 pledge from BPCL and other oil companies in India to install 22,000 EV charging stations by 2026.
BPCL had previously awarded Servotech Power Systems a significant order for 1,800 EV chargers, further highlighting its dedication to building a robust charging infrastructure across the country.
