Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng unveiled a heads-up display (HUD) system jointly developed with technology giant Huawei, describing it as the world’s first HUD to integrate artificial intelligence for smart driving.
The new augmented reality HUD, or AR-HUD, projects an 87-inch display area onto the vehicle’s windshield, showing information including autonomous driving status, speed, and road conditions. The system combines Huawei’s advanced AR-HUD hardware with Xpeng’s AI-driven autonomous driving algorithms.

Huawei provided “the industry’s leading AR-HUD hardware platform,” ensuring “display clarity, brightness, and color performance meet top-tier standards,” Xpeng said in a statement. The display system features a brightness of up to 12,000 nits and a contrast ratio of 1,800:1 to maintain visibility in various environments.
“With the technical support of Xpeng and Huawei, the display system can integrate AR information with the actual road,” the company said, adding that the HUD offers enhanced safety functions such as lane-level navigation, alerts on vehicle intentions, and warnings in poor visibility conditions including rain and fog.

The AR-HUD system will first be installed in Xpeng’s new G7 sport utility vehicle (SUV), previewed in January and positioned as a competitive offering in the RMB 250,000 ($34,810) price segment.
Xpeng’s product lineup also includes the G6 and G9 SUVs, both recently upgraded, as well as the Mona M03, P7+, P7i sedans, and the X9 multi-purpose vehicle.
