Volkswagen has introduced the ID.7 Tourer, a new electric mid-size estate car that combines the practicality of a classic estate with the dynamic flair of a shooting brake. Positioned as an internal competitor to the Passat Variant, the ID.7 Tourer offers a purely electric drive and a distinctive design.
Unlike the Passat, which is only available as an estate in its new generation, the ID.7 Tourer debuted as a saloon. However, the Tourer variant features a unique design, with VW describing it as a fusion of a classic estate and a dynamic shooting brake like the Arteon. The Tourer boasts a higher rear end compared to the Arteon Shooting Brake and a flatter rear window than the Passat, giving it a sporty yet practical appearance.

While the ID.7 Tourer offers slightly less cargo space than the Passat Variant, with a maximum of 1,714 litres compared to the Passat’s 1,920 litres, it still provides ample room for families and cargo. With the rear seats up, the Tourer offers 605 litres of storage capacity.
Volkswagen emphasizes that the ID.7 Tourer and the Passat Variant complement each other rather than compete directly. The ID.7 Tourer is part of Volkswagen’s strategy to offer a wide range of models in the upper mid-sized class, covering various drive types from electric to plug-in hybrid, mild hybrid, petrol, and diesel.

The ID.7 Tourer is powered by the same technology found in the ID.7 saloon, featuring the APP550 electric motor. Two variants will be available at launch in Europe, distinguished by their battery sizes: the ID.7 Tourer Pro with a 77 kWh battery and the ID.7 Tourer Pro S with an 86 kWh battery. Volkswagen has not yet provided official range figures, but estimates suggest the larger battery could offer up to 685 kilometres based on WLTP standards.
Charging the ID.7 Tourer is quick and convenient, with the 77 kWh battery capable of charging at up to 175 kW and the 86 kWh battery at up to 200 kW. The vehicle features an 11 kW onboard charger for AC charging and is equipped with a battery preconditioning system for fast-charging stops.

Pricing for the ID.7 Tourer has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be higher than the saloon variant.
