German carmaker Volkswagen (VW) has added an all-wheel drive version to its ID.4 line of electric vehicles, after previously being only available on the ID.4 GTX 4MOTION flagship model.
Developed based on ID.4 Pro Performance, the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION has a system power of 195 kW/265 PS and offers more traction in wet conditions, such as snowy roads or muddy ground.
Pre-sales of the all-wheel drive electric ID.4 version have been open since June 9, with a price in the local German market of 49,020 euros, or around Rp. 753.6 million, according to Volkswagen in a recent statement.
Thanks to a second electric motor on the front axle, the more powerful variant of the new Pro model transfers its power to the road via an all-wheel drive system. “It is positioned exactly between the efficient and comfortable ID.4 model with rear-wheel drive and the sporty ID.4 GTX 4MOTION flagship model,” explains Silke Bagschik, Head of Sales and Marketing ID. at Volkswagen.
The all-wheel drive technology in ID.4 Pro 4MOTION improves traction making it possible to achieve even better driving dynamics. This new model with a twin-engine all-wheel drive system can also be relied on to tow small trailers.
Thanks to the all-wheel drive system, the weight of the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION towing trailer increases by 200 kilograms to 1,400 kilograms for an 8 percent gradient (braked) compared to the classic Pro Performance version.
The two electric motors in the new 4MOTION model have a combined output of 195 kW (265 PS) and accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. Primary driving power is provided by permanently excited synchronous motors on the rear axle.
The ID.4 Pro 4MOTION is equipped with a 77 kWh battery (net) and has a range of up to 517 kilometers (according to WLTP). The top speed is limited to 180 km/h as for the ID.4 GTX 4MOTION.
Like other ID.4 models, the maximum charging capacity is 135 kW. The high-voltage battery can be charged from five percent to an 80 percent charge level (SOC) in 36 minutes and then offers a further range of 337 kilometers (according to WLTP).
With a length of 4.58 meters using the architecture of Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB), this car offers interior space at the level of a conventional SUV. Depending on the position of the back seat backrest, the luggage compartment offers capacities from 543 to 1,575 liters.
The ID.4 is a fairly successful Volkswagen model. Volkswagen delivered more than 30,000 vehicles of this type in the first quarter of 2022 alone. A total of 163,000 units were delivered worldwide in 2021, making the ID.4 the best-selling electric vehicle of the Volkswagen brand and Volkswagen Group.
