Valenzuela City, part of the national capital region of the Philippines, has acquired 41 units of the BYD Dolphin electric hatchback, creating the countryâs largest electric vehicle fleet for law enforcement, local officials and BYDâs distributor said on Monday.
ACMobility, the official distributor of BYD vehicles in the Philippines, said the city will deploy 35 units for police patrol and enforcement, five for general government use, and one as a first responder vehicle. The move is part of Valenzuelaâs âGo Green Valenzuelaâ programme, which promotes environmentally friendly and cost-efficient solutions in public services.

Valenzuela spent 75.8 million pesos (approximately 1.2 million euros) for the initiative, which also includes the installation of EV charging infrastructure. Greenstrum, a subsidiary of ACMobility focused on EV charging solutions, has already deployed 15 units of 7 kW AC chargers across 12 locations in the city.
Plans are also underway to expand the network with public chargers, beginning with a 60 kW DC unit at the cityâs Alert Station, a government facility for emergency and disaster response. These chargers will be accessible to the public via the Evro mobile app available on the App Store and Google Play.
âBy aiming to be the first LGU in the Philippines with the largest fleet of electric vehicles and the most extensive network of government and public charging stations strategically located in NLEX, in MacArthur, and in Mindanao Avenue, we have become torchbearers of the country,â said Valenzuela Mayor Wes Gatchalian.
All 41 BYD Dolphin units were ordered with the same configuration, including a 44.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, 6.6 kW AC and 60 kW DC charging capability, and a 70 kW front-mounted electric motor producing 180 Nm of torque. The vehicles offer a top speed of 130 km/h and an estimated NEDC range of 405 km.
