Toyota has opened orders for the Urban Cruiser Ebella, marking the automaker’s first fully electric vehicle offering in India as it seeks to expand its footprint in one of the world’s fastest-growing auto markets.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella follows the European launch of the Urban Cruiser EV last month and represents the company’s entry into India’s mass-market electric segment. Prices are expected to start at around Rs 1.9 million ($21,000), positioning the midsize electric SUV among the more affordable long-range EVs available in the country.

India’s EV market has so far been dominated by domestic manufacturers such as Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, supported by locally produced models and favorable government policies. Foreign automakers including BYD and Tesla face steep import tariffs, while others, such as Hyundai, have begun gaining traction with domestically built electric vehicles.
Toyota is taking a similar localization strategy with the Urban Cruiser Ebella, which is mechanically related to the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitarra and will be manufactured at Suzuki Motor’s Gujarat plant. The model is offered with two lithium-iron phosphate battery options—49 kWh and 61 kWh—delivering an ARAI-certified driving range of up to 543 km (337 miles).

The electric SUV is available exclusively with front-wheel drive. The smaller battery produces up to 106 kW (142 hp) and 189 Nm of torque, while the larger pack increases output to 128 kW with the same torque rating. Visually, the Urban Cruiser Ebella distinguishes itself from its Suzuki counterpart with Toyota’s “Hammerhead” front-end design.
Inside, the India-bound model is expected to mirror the European version, featuring a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside physical controls for key functions. Toyota’s i-Connect suite provides access to more than 100 connected features, including remote charging and battery monitoring.
