Tesla will have fully autonomous car without the need for a human driver next year, Elon Musk told reporters in Brazil.

Elon Musk who provided an ambitious timeline while in Brazil on Friday. Although in the past he had been wrong about it several times.

Elon Musk is currently in Brazil to launch a program to connect the Amazon region to SpaceX’s Starlink satellite-based internet

While speaking to reporters, Musk said that Tesla would have self-driving cars without the need for humans in about a year. That means around May 2023 if calculated from now.

Regarding the timeline for autonomous vehicles, Musk predicted in December 2015 that fully autonomous vehicles would be available within two years. The timeline was adjusted and missed several times since then.

“I think we have all the pieces, and it’s just about refining those pieces, putting them in place, and making sure they work across a huge number of environments—and then we’re done. We’re going to end up with complete autonomy, and I think we will have complete autonomy in approximately two years.” Says Elon Musk (via Fortune)

To create fully autonomous vehicles, Tesla in recent years has a Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta program with 100,000 testers in the United States and Canada.

In April, Tesla plans to bring a dedicated robotaxi with no steering wheel or pedals to market by 2024. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that this vehicle will have no physical control for the driver. Meaning its rollout hinges on the company getting the job done on full self-driving within the next two years.
