Swedish public transport operator Svealandstrafiken has commissioned Volvo Buses to deliver 73 electric buses, including 13 articulated buses for urban transport in Örebro and 60 regional buses for Örebro and Västmanland counties.

The new order comes as Svealandstrafiken replaces two of three previous contracts with Dutch manufacturer Ebusco, which were canceled by mutual agreement. Jonas Berg, Head of Purchasing and Sustainability at Svealandstrafiken, expressed satisfaction with the resolution: “We are pleased with how our contingency plans turned out and that we can secure our deliveries of sustainable vehicles for the future.”

The articulated buses are scheduled for delivery in early 2026 and will complement 23 Ebusco electric buses already planned for Örebro’s City Line. “We look forward to continuing the electrification of our urban transport with more quiet, emission-free vehicles and contributing to a more sustainable urban environment in Örebro,” said Fredrik Eliasson, Head of Public Transport, Region Örebro County.

For regional services, the 60 new electric buses will operate in Örebro and Västmanland counties. Passenger comfort has been prioritized in the design, with features such as reclining seats, armrests, luggage racks, clothes hooks, and curtains. The quieter operation of electric power is also expected to enhance the travel experience.

Volvo Buses has an established relationship with Svealandstrafiken, having received its first order in 2020 for ten electric buses. In 2021, Hitachi ABB was contracted to install charging infrastructure in Västerås to support the fleet.
