Google, Nevoya and the Center for Green Market Activation (GMA) are preparing to deploy 25 battery-electric Class 8 trucks and associated charging infrastructure on a new electric freight route in Texas. Nevoya will operate the trucks, while Greenlane Infrastructure is responsible for developing the charging network supporting the deployment.
The manufacturers and specific models of the 25 trucks have not yet been disclosed, and technical specifications remain limited.
Truck Manufacturer Remains Unconfirmed
A GMA LinkedIn post confirms that Nevoya will serve as the carrier operating the trucks and that Greenlane Infrastructure will build the associated charging infrastructure.
An image included in a Google blog post has prompted speculation about the vehicle manufacturer. Torque News noted that the truck shown appears similar to a Tesla Semi.
However, Google has not identified the truck in the image as a Tesla Semi, and its announcement does not specify which manufacturer will supply the vehicles for Nevoya’s deployment.
Fleet Part Of Larger Texas Deployment
The 25 trucks form part of a larger planned fleet of 63 electric semis. Google describes the overall project as “the largest known development of class 8 battery zero-emission trucks in Texas.”
Google expects the combined fleet to travel approximately 11 million miles, or around 17 million kilometers, annually. The company estimates that the deployment could avoid 92,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year.
Google’s participation also reflects its interest in the environmental attributes associated with freight electrification. The company said it is effectively “pooling” its procurement of environmental attribute certificates (EACs), which companies can purchase to address logistics emissions within their supply chains.
Nevoya Expands Electric Freight Operations
The latest deployment builds on an expanding network of electric heavy-duty freight operations along the Houston-Dallas corridor.
In January, Nevoya began deploying 40 battery-electric Freightliner eCascadia trucks on the route through GMA’s first procurement program. The initiative was designed to aggregate demand from major freight customers and help accelerate the deployment of zero-emission trucks on commercial freight routes.
The additional 25 trucks would expand the number of electric heavy-duty vehicles operating through the corridor and further establish the route as a test case for commercial zero-emission freight.
Greenlane Builds Dedicated Truck Charging
Charging infrastructure is also being developed to support the growing fleet.
Greenlane announced plans in May for dedicated electric truck charging sites in Houston and Dallas. Each facility is planned to feature six to eight pull-through charging lanes, along with overnight parking.
The sites are expected to support both Combined Charging System (CCS) and Megawatt Charging System (MCS) charging, providing infrastructure for current and future electric heavy-duty trucks.
Together, the vehicle deployments and charging projects are intended to create a more comprehensive electric freight corridor between Houston and Dallas, while demonstrating how coordinated vehicle procurement, charging infrastructure and environmental attribute purchasing can support the transition to zero-emission trucking.
