Dutch public transport operator, Qbuzz, has just placed an order for 54 electric buses from Belgian manufacturer, Van Hool. This is the second e-bus order placed by Qbuzz in less than a week, cementing their commitment to sustainable public transportation. The new buses are scheduled to be delivered in Q4 2024 and will be deployed in the Dutch provinces of Groningen and Drenthe.
The Qbuzz order includes Van Hool’s A15LE E model, part of the A-series of buses introduced in June 2022. The A15LE E is a 15-meter long zero-emission bus that is battery-powered, and equipped with two ZF Axtrax axles, each producing 140 kW. The batteries are sourced from Akasol and have a large working radius, making them ideal for intercity routes. Dirk Huzeling, Bid Manager at Qbuzz, explained the challenges they faced when looking to replace their existing fleet of Qliner buses, “We definitely wanted to go green, and so the option of a 100% zero-emission bus was quickly floated…we opted for the long 15-metre buses with 55 comfortable seats for passengers.”

Qbuzz has also partnered with Van Hool in the past, ordering nine double-decker Astromega TDX27 buses and thirty hydrogen buses. The latest order confirms the confidence Qbuzz has in Van Hool, as stated by CEO Filip Van Hool.
In addition to their order from Van Hool, Qbuzz also ordered up to 63 electric buses from Ebusco just yesterday. These extra-large battery buses will be used on inner and intercity routes in Groningen and Drenthe.
