Chinese automaker BYD will introduce its latest battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform and an ultra-fast charging system capable of delivering up to 1,000 kW—twice the power of Tesla’s latest Superchargers—at an event on March 17 in Shenzhen.
The “BYD Super e-Platform” aims to redefine pure electric technology, the company said on Weibo. At the event, BYD will also begin pre-sales for the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, which are expected to support the new charging technology. Promotional materials suggest that BYD’s new system will allow EV charging speeds comparable to gasoline refueling.

Speculation about BYD’s high-powered supercharger emerged earlier this month, with reports indicating support for charging voltages up to 1,000 volts and charging power of up to 1,000 kW.
If a vehicle is compatible, this could enable a full charge of a 100-kWh battery in approximately 10 minutes—far surpassing the 500-kW peak power of Tesla’s V4 Superchargers.

Both the Han L and Tang L, listed in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) regulatory catalog, feature dual motors with a combined peak output of up to 810 kW. The Han L is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, while the Tang L achieves the sprint in 3.9 seconds.
