Onvo, a sub-brand of Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio, has launched a flexible battery upgrade service, allowing owners of its L60 model to switch between standard and long-range battery packs on a daily, monthly, or annual basis.
The service, which takes advantage of Onvo’s battery swap technology, will be introduced on a trial basis in 16 cities starting March 1, with a nationwide rollout expected by mid-March, the company announced on its mobile app.

“Onvo aims to provide users with greater flexibility and convenience in managing their battery needs,” the company stated in the announcement.
The standard-range battery pack, with a capacity of 60 kWh, offers a China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) range of 555 kilometers, while the long-range 85 kWh pack extends the range to 730 kilometers. The upgrade costs 45 yuan ($6.18) per day, 800 yuan per month, or 8,800 yuan per year.

Onvo is also offering early adopters incentives: customers who purchased the standard-range L60 before February 28 will receive five free upgrade vouchers, while those who opted for the long-range version will be granted four complimentary battery swaps.
Nio has been offering similar battery upgrade options under its main brand since 2020, with fees set at 50 yuan per day, 880 yuan per month, or 9,800 yuan per year. The company also adjusts upgrade costs during peak travel periods around major holidays in China.
