May Mobility, a Toyota-backed firm, has unveiled a new autonomous electric minibus in partnership with Tecnobus. Designed for urban environments, airports, and corporate campuses, the minibus can carry up to 30 passengers and reach speeds of 45 mph (72 km/h). Equipped with an array of cameras and sensors, the vehicle aims to improve transit access and reduce urban congestion.
The minibus will be fully electric and feature swappable batteries to minimize downtime. May Mobility has confirmed that the first buses will be ready by the first half of 2026, with plans to deploy them later that year. While specific deployment locations are yet to be disclosed, the company has confirmed that the model is homologated for use in Canada and Europe, allowing it to expand into new markets.
May Mobility CEO Edwin Olson emphasized the significance of the new vehicle: “Our partnership with Tecnobus shows that we’re serious about expanding transit access and reducing urban congestion. It’s a strong example of how doing the right thing for communities can also be great for growing our business.”
In the meantime, the company continues to operate autonomous Toyota Sienna vehicles in various U.S. cities, including Ann Arbor and Detroit, Michigan, Sun City, Arizona, and Martinez, California. These programs offer free or low-cost services to the public.
