Lucid Group, autonomous driving startup Nuro and ride-hailing platform Uber Technologies on Monday unveiled a production-intent robotaxi, marking a key step toward commercial deployment of their autonomous vehicle partnership.
The unveiling at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas places the trio among a growing group of companies pursuing large-scale robotaxi operations in the United States, alongside rivals such as Alphabet’s Waymo and Tesla.

The companies said autonomous on-road testing began in December, led by Nuro using engineering prototypes supervised by safety operators. The testing programme combines public-road driving, closed-course testing and simulation, as the partners work toward a planned robotaxi launch in the San Francisco Bay Area later this year.
“The debut of our production intent robotaxi with Lucid and Uber is a significant milestone on our path to delivering autonomy at scale,” said Dave Ferguson, co-founder and co-chief executive of Nuro. He said the collaboration brings together “Nuro’s proven level 4 autonomy, Lucid’s advanced vehicle architecture, and Uber’s global reach” to support real-world operations and long-term growth.

“Uber is proud to partner with Lucid and Nuro to bring a state-of-the-art robotaxi to market later this year,” said Sarfraz Maredia, Global Head of Autonomous Mobility & Delivery at Uber. “By combining leading expertise in electric vehicles, autonomy, and ridehailing, we’re building a unique new option for affordable and scalable autonomous rides in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.”
“Our robotaxi program with Uber and Nuro is a key part of how Lucid is leveraging its technology to create a more sustainable future of mobility that is widely accessible,” said Kay Stepper, Vice President of ADAS and Autonomous at Lucid. “Our engineering, range and interior comfort offers a unique platform, and when combined with Nuro’s technology and Uber’s scale, we are collectively building an experience like no other.”

The vehicle is based on Lucid’s Gravity electric sport utility vehicle and features a roof-mounted sensor “halo” integrating cameras, lidar and radar to provide 360-degree perception. Uber designed the in-cabin experience, which includes interactive screens that allow riders to adjust climate and seating, manage entertainment and contact support during trips. The system also provides real-time visualisation of what the autonomous vehicle detects and how it plans manoeuvres.
The robotaxi runs on Nuro’s Level 4 autonomous driving system and uses NVIDIA’s DRIVE AGX Thor computing platform to support real-time artificial intelligence processing and system integration.
