Lucid is partnering with Nvidia to bring advanced Level 4 autonomous driving to its upcoming midsize electric vehicles (EVs), the California-based automaker announced on Tuesday. The vehicles will use Nvidia’s DRIVE AGX Thor computing platform and DriveOS software to enable “eyes-off, hands-off, mind-off” operation under most driving conditions.

The collaboration combines Lucid’s engineering expertise with Nvidia’s AI and high-performance computing capabilities, according to Lucid interim CEO Marc Winterhoff, who said it aims to produce “the smartest and safest autonomous vehicles on the road.” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described the partnership as a step toward a future in which vehicles function as “supercomputers on wheels.”

Before rolling out Level 4 autonomy, Lucid plans to enhance its DreamDrive Pro driver-assist system in the Gravity SUV. The upgraded “Level 2++” system will allow hands-free, point-to-point driving, serving as a bridge to full autonomy in the midsize lineup.

The Gravity will also benefit from Nvidia’s scalable software architecture, enabling new automated features via over-the-air updates, helping Lucid maintain a competitive edge in software-defined vehicle technology.

In addition to self-driving capabilities, Lucid will leverage Nvidia’s Industrial AI platform to optimize its manufacturing operations. By developing digital twins of its production plants, the company aims to simulate, test, and improve factory layouts to reduce costs, enhance quality, and accelerate vehicle delivery.

This partnership signals Lucid’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge AI into both vehicle operation and production, positioning the company at the forefront of autonomous and smart manufacturing in the EV sector.
