Chinese electric vehicle maker Leapmotor has revealed additional specifications for its Lafa 5 hatchback following a regulatory filing, ahead of its planned launch in China later this year.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) included the Lafa 5 in its latest catalog of vehicles pending public comment, which will be open from Sept. 11 to 17. Inclusion in the catalog represents the final major regulatory step before a model can be sold in China.
The all-electric hatchback, produced at Leapmotor’s Jinhua facility, measures 4,430 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,735 mm. It is equipped with a single motor producing 160 kW (215 hp) and supports an optional LiDAR sensor. The five-seat model has a curb weight between 2,040 kg and 2,090 kg and a top speed of 170 km/h.
Battery packs will be supplied by CATL, CALB, Gotion High-tech, and Zenergy, though range figures have not yet been disclosed. Leapmotor said it will begin deliveries in China in the first half of 2026, with global sales to follow the same year.
Unveiled at the IAA Mobility show in Munich on September 8, the Lafa 5 is described as a sporty hatchback developed with input from Stellantis’ European team. The model will compete in the electric hatchback segment against vehicles such as the Volkswagen ID.3, SAIC MG4, BYD Dolphin, and Nio Firefly.
