Chinese autonomous driving company WeRide has expanded into Denmark through a strategic partnership with Danish mobility operator GreenMobility, becoming the first Chinese robotaxi developer to enter the Nordic region.
The collaboration aims to establish Denmark’s first commercial autonomous shared mobility service, subject to regulatory approval, with public operations targeted for the first half of 2027.
First Nordic Market Entry
Under the agreement, WeRide and GreenMobility will introduce WeRide’s latest-generation GXR robotaxi, an EU-compliant Level 4 autonomous vehicle designed for commercial ride-hailing services.
Passengers will be able to book fully autonomous rides once the service receives approval from Danish regulators.
The project marks WeRide’s sixth European market after previously expanding into France, Belgium, Switzerland, Slovakia and Spain.

Accelerating European Expansion
Denmark represents another milestone in WeRide’s rapid European growth strategy.
The company entered Slovakia in March before announcing commercial robotaxi deployments in Madrid, Spain, and Zurich, Switzerland, in June, demonstrating an accelerating pace of international expansion.
WeRide said the Denmark project follows its asset-light business model, partnering with established local mobility providers rather than operating vehicle fleets independently.

Partnership With GreenMobility
GreenMobility operates the Nordic region’s largest free-floating electric vehicle car-sharing network, with more than 1,500 battery-electric vehicles across its fleet.
The Danish company will contribute its fleet management expertise, operational experience and customer platform, while WeRide provides the autonomous driving technology.
The companies said they will work closely with the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) and the Danish Road Traffic Authority (Færdselsstyrelsen) to conduct testing and deployment in accordance with Danish and European Union regulations.

GreenMobility Group CEO Kasper Gjedsted said the partnership will enable the company to build on its experience managing millions of shared mobility trips while expanding into autonomous transportation.
WeRide currently operates autonomous driving services in more than 40 cities worldwide and manages a Level 4 autonomous fleet of over 3,000 vehicles. The company also holds autonomous driving permits across eight countries and works with mobility partners including Uber, Grab and several regional transport operators.
