Kia has revealed the PV5, its first dedicated Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV), developed to offer flexible electric mobility solutions for both commercial and individual users. The vehicle is based on a modular platform aimed at improving efficiency, usability, and adaptability across a range of operational needs.
The PV5 is built on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform for Service (E-GMP.S), which standardizes components such as batteries, motors, and suspension to help streamline production and reduce development time. The model offers three battery options—43.3 kWh LFP, 51.5 kWh NCM, and 71.2 kWh NCM—each paired with a 120 kW motor.
Kia said the PV5 was developed with input from global business clients in sectors such as logistics, delivery, and utilities. The company hosted collaboration events to gather user feedback, which contributed to design features such as expanded cargo space, stain-resistant materials, and improved cabin accessibility. “We actively listened to the needs of global business clients from industries like logistics, delivery, and utilities,” the company said in a statement.
A key feature of the PV5 is its Flexible Body System, which allows for up to 16 model variations using modular structures, including swappable panels, roof heights, and door types. Initial variants include passenger and cargo models in standard, long, and high-roof formats. According to Kia, the compact exterior—up to 4,695mm in length—can accommodate up to 5.1 m³ of cargo space in some configurations.
The PV5 WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle) variant includes a side-entry ramp, universal securing systems, and a low-floor layout. Kia said it collaborated with mobility-impaired users during the design process to enhance accessibility.
Inside the vehicle, a low floor and extended wheelbase contribute to improved space and access. Seating arrangements include multiple layouts depending on use cases. The infotainment system runs on Android Automotive and supports fleet management tools, real-time updates, and integration with third-party applications through Pleos App Market. Safety features include pedal misapplication mitigation and automatic door locking.
Kia has developed an ecosystem to support post-sale customization, including a PBV Conversion Center for factory-grade modifications and an online Conversion Portal for partners. Production will start with Passenger and Cargo Long models, with additional models, PV7 and PV9, expected in 2027 and 2029.
