Hyundai Motor Group is partnering with energy platform Kaluza to integrate smart charging controls directly into the digital platforms used by Hyundai and Kia electric vehicle drivers. The initiative will initially launch in the United Kingdom before expanding to Australia and other markets, with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) services planned for Hyundai and Kia vehicles from 2027.
Smart Charging Comes to Hyundai and Kia Apps
The partnership will bring Kaluza’s energy intelligence technology directly into the Kia App and myHyundai App, allowing battery-electric vehicle drivers to manage charging through the same digital platforms they already use for their vehicles.

Drivers will be able to select when their vehicle needs to be ready while the system manages charging based on electricity availability and pricing. The objective is to allow EV owners to charge when electricity is cheaper and when lower-carbon energy is available.
By integrating the charging controls natively into Hyundai and Kia’s digital ecosystem, drivers will not need to rely on a separate application for the smart charging functionality.
UK Launch With OVO
The UK will be the first market for the new smart charging service. Energy provider OVO will initially offer the functionality through the Kia App to customers who use both Kia vehicles and OVO energy services.
Kia drivers currently using the Kia App for their vehicle and the OVO Charge App for charging will be able to manage both functions through the Kia App by early autumn.

The same service will subsequently become available to Hyundai drivers.
Path Toward Vehicle-to-Grid
The smart charging system is part of Hyundai Motor Group’s broader AllDayEnergy initiative, announced in July, which brings together smart charging, vehicle-to-grid and vehicle-to-home services.
The initial phase focuses on managed charging, allowing EVs to charge according to electricity prices, availability and other grid conditions.
Hyundai Motor Group plans to introduce bidirectional charging applications in later stages. V2G technology would allow compatible EVs to send electricity from their batteries back to the public grid, while vehicle-to-home (V2H) technology could allow vehicles to provide energy to residential properties.

Hyundai and Kia are planning V2G applications from 2027 onward.

Woong Tae Hwang, Vice President and Head of the EV Energy Strategy Group at Hyundai Motor Group, said Kaluza was selected for its expertise in energy intelligence and its ability to work with the automaker on developing new energy services.
“This is not just a product integration. We are co-developing the standard for how EVs participate in the energy system, and we expect the rest of the market to follow,” said Woong Tae Hwang, Vice President and Head of the EV Energy Strategy Group at Hyundai Motor Group.
Kaluza CEO Stephen Fitzpatrick said the partnership is intended to establish the foundation for broader integration between EVs and energy networks.
“This partnership is about more than smart charging,” said Stephen Fitzpatrick, CEO of Kaluza.
Fitzpatrick said the initial rollout in the UK and Australia will also provide a foundation for future V2G services designed to reduce energy costs and support the wider energy transition.
The companies plan to expand the smart charging service internationally after its initial UK launch.
