Hyundai has revealed plans for a new Santa Fe extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) at its 2026 CEO Investor Day in Seoul, with the model scheduled to launch in North America in 2027. The Santa Fe EREV is expected to offer more than 600 miles of combined range from a full battery charge and a single tank of gasoline and will be manufactured at Hyundai’s plant in Alabama.
Santa Fe EREV Targets More Than 600 Miles
The Santa Fe EREV will combine a high-voltage battery and electric drive units with a gasoline engine that operates as a generator to recharge the battery.
The configuration is designed to provide an electric driving experience while extending overall driving range through the onboard gasoline generator. Hyundai expects the technology to address long-distance driving requirements and could make the powertrain particularly relevant for customers who regularly tow or haul heavy loads.

The company has not disclosed the Santa Fe EREV’s specific battery capacity or other detailed powertrain specifications.
High-Nickel Battery Cells
Hyundai said its EREV models will use internally developed high-nickel battery cells. The automaker expects the cells to reduce charging times by 40%.
Hyundai also said its EREV vehicles will require less than half the battery capacity of a comparable EV while delivering similar performance and driving characteristics.
The company did not provide specific battery capacity or charging figures for the Santa Fe EREV.
U.S. Production Planned for 2027
The Santa Fe EREV will be produced at Hyundai’s Alabama plant when production begins in 2027.
The model is part of Hyundai’s broader North American product strategy announced during the 2026 CEO Investor Day. The automaker plans to introduce 58 new or refreshed models across North America by 2030.
The Santa Fe EREV will be one of the company’s major electrified vehicle launches as Hyundai expands its lineup with powertrains designed to combine electric propulsion with extended range.
