A U.S. owner of a 2024 Kia EV6 has filed a lemon law claim after experiencing multiple failures of the vehicle’s 12-volt battery system, highlighting a recurring issue that has surfaced among other EV6 owners despite the car’s generally positive reputation.
The owner, who posted details of the situation in a Facebook group for EV6 drivers, claims his Wind RWD model has gone through three or four 12-volt batteries within a single year of ownership. With only 4,500 miles on the odometer, he described the experience as “a recurring electrical problem,” adding that his latest replacement battery leaked acid and corroded the battery tray.

The issue lies not with the main high-voltage battery that powers the EV’s drivetrain but with the smaller 12-volt unit responsible for powering auxiliary systems. Most EV6s in the U.S. have been delivered with traditional lead-acid 12-volt batteries, which some owners say are underperforming.
“The original lead-acid battery failed and corroded the tray underneath,” the owner wrote, sharing photos that show clear evidence of leakage and damage. He noted that the dealership had not yet replaced the faulty unit with a more durable AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery, even though Kia reportedly started using AGM batteries in EV6s from the factory as of late 2024, according to users on Kia EV forums.

AGM batteries are known for better cycling performance and longer lifespan, and other EV6 owners on social media recommend upgrading to one proactively to avoid similar failures. Despite this, it remains unclear why some dealerships have continued to install the older battery type as replacements.
While the EV6 remains a well-reviewed electric vehicle, the lemon law claim underscores how smaller components, such as the 12-volt battery, can impact customer satisfaction and perceived reliability.

it is more than one owner – it is hundreds if not thousands with this issue – i alone have been towed 4 times for this issue with little or no help from Kia – i have collected the names of almost 100 others with this same issue – it is a scandal!!
