Hyundai will introduce its new Ioniq 3 electric vehicle next month at the Munich Motor Show, aiming to offer a more affordable and technologically advanced option in its EV lineup, the company said.
Hyundai Europe CEO Xavier Martinet told TopGear that the Ioniq 3 and the Inster EV “are cheaper, so they’ll give us total coverage of the EV market.” The Ioniq 3 is expected to sit between the Inster EV and the Kona Electric, with a slightly smaller size than the Kona but upgraded features.
The Ioniq 3 will offer battery packs of 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh, with estimated WLTP ranges of about 260 and 365 miles, and will use a 400V system rather than the 800V setup found in Hyundai’s Ioniq 5, 6, and 9 models. Its interior will feature Hyundai’s new Pleos operating system, providing a smartphone-like interface.
Martinet also highlighted the company’s broader EV strategy, saying it “isn’t an absolute race but a race against the other manufacturers. We want the same share in all types of powertrain,” and adding that “people don’t go back to ICE” after owning an EV. Hyundai plans to continue offering gas-powered, plug-in hybrid, fully electric, and extended-range EVs across its global lineup.
The Ioniq 3 will be produced in Turkey and is not expected to launch in the United States due to import tariffs, though Hyundai continues to offer competitive pricing in other markets, with the 2025 Ioniq 5 now available for leases as low as $179 per month.
