Global electric vehicle battery usage reached 1,046 gigawatt-hours between January and November, rising 32.6% from a year earlier, driven by continued growth in EV sales and sustained dominance by Chinese battery makers, data released on Wednesday by South Korean market research firm SNE Research showed.
China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL) retained its position as the world’s largest EV battery supplier, with installations totaling 400 GWh during the period, up 34.5% from 297.4 GWh a year earlier. CATL accounted for 38.2% of global EV battery usage, making it the only supplier worldwide with a market share above 30%.

The company’s share rose from 37.7% in January–November 2024 and also exceeded its 38.1% share recorded in the January–October period, underscoring its sustained lead in the global market.
BYD ranked second, with EV battery installations reaching 175.2 GWh in the first 11 months of the year, a 31.3% increase from the same period in 2024. The Chinese automaker and battery producer held a 16.7% global market share, slightly below the 16.9% recorded both in January–November 2024 and January–October 2025.

South Korea’s LG Energy Solution maintained its third-place ranking, installing 96.9 GWh of EV batteries from January to November, an 11.1% year-on-year increase. Its market share stood at 9.3%, down from 11.1% in the same period last year but unchanged from the January–October figure.
China’s CALB ranked fourth with installed capacity of 50.9 GWh, giving it a 4.9% share of the global market. Gotion High-tech followed in fifth place with a 4.3% share, while South Korea’s SK On ranked sixth with 3.9%.

Japan’s Panasonic placed seventh with a 3.7% share, while China’s Eve Energy and Svolt Energy ranked eighth and ninth with 2.7% and 2.6% respectively. South Korea’s Samsung SDI rounded out the top ten with a 2.6% share during the January–November period.
SNE Research noted that Samsung SDI had ranked eighth with a 2.7% share in the January–October period, ahead of Eve Energy and Svolt Energy, highlighting intensified competition among mid-tier battery suppliers as global EV demand continues to expand.
