Electrify America and the New York Power Authority (NYPA) have opened a new hyper-fast electric vehicle charging station at the Rochester Institute of Technology Inn & Conference Center, expanding public charging access in the Finger Lakes region as New York accelerates deployment of federally funded infrastructure.

The site features four 350-kilowatt direct current fast chargers equipped with CCS connectors, capable of charging compatible electric vehicles in about 20 minutes. The opening brings NYPA’s statewide EVolve NY network to 282 fast chargers across 66 locations.

The Henrietta hub is New York’s ninth charging location funded under the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program (NEVI), created by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. NEVI is providing New York State with $175 million to install high-power charging stations near interstate highway exits.

Located off Brooks Road near the junction of Interstate 90 and Interstate 390, the site was recommended by Empire State Development due to its proximity to major travel corridors and nearby amenities, including the Frederick Douglass Rochester International Airport. While serving students and staff at Rochester Institute of Technology, the chargers are open to the public.

“This latest site fills a critical gap in NYPA’s network along major highway corridors and makes it easier for New Yorkers to feel confident traversing the state in their electric vehicles,” said Justin E. Driscoll, president and chief executive of NYPA.

U.S. Senator Jeremy Cooney, who joined the announcement on Dec. 17, said the project reflects New York’s broader push to make EV use more accessible. “Today’s announcement is a perfect example of our progress in bolstering infrastructure to create a cleaner future for New Yorkers,” he said.

Electrify America President and Chief Executive Robert Barrosa said the new hub strengthens regional connectivity. “This hyper-fast charging site at RIT improves confidence for drivers traveling along two major corridors and supports a vibrant community center,” he said.

Since 2021, Electrify America and NYPA have commissioned 223 chargers at 48 stations for the EVolve NY network. NYPA said the programme remains on track to reach about 400 fast chargers statewide within the next year.

New York State currently has more than 2,800 public fast chargers across 636 locations, part of a broader nearly $3 billion investment in zero-emission vehicles and clean transportation under Governor Kathy Hochul’s administration. Additional NEVI and state-funded charging awards are expected to be announced in early 2026.
