Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD said it has sold over 1.5 million units of its Yuan family models globally, highlighting the sustained popularity of the compact EV line in both domestic and international markets.
The Yuan family, part of BYD’s Dynasty series, currently includes four models: the Yuan Plus Smart Driving Edition, Yuan Plus Honor Edition, Yuan Up Smart Driving Edition, and the standard Yuan Up. BYD’s Yuan Plus is also marketed overseas under the name Atto 3 and has become the brand’s first global model.
The company attributed the milestone to the affordability and smart features of the models. The Yuan Plus Smart Driving Edition, introduced earlier this year, is priced from RMB 115,800 ($16,110) to RMB 145,800, while the Honor Edition launched in March ranges from RMB 119,800 to RMB 147,800. The lower-priced Yuan Up variants start at RMB 96,800.
The smart versions are equipped with BYD’s “God’s Eye Smart Driving System,” with the Yuan Plus and Yuan Up models featuring the entry-level God’s Eye C system.
Despite recent declines—sales fell 21.18% year-on-year and 13.52% month-on-month in May—the Yuan family still sold 31,711 units last month, making it BYD’s fifth-best-selling model. From January to May, cumulative sales reached 165,284 units, accounting for 9.37% of BYD’s total sales and reflecting a 22.99% increase from the same period last year.
