Leapmotor has launched the A05, a compact battery-electric hatchback, in Hangzhou with prices ranging from 63,900 yuan ($9,410) to 90,900 yuan. The model is the second vehicle based on the company’s A platform and is positioned for urban driving in China’s sub-100,000-yuan segment.
The launch event was originally scheduled for Aug. 10 but was postponed by one day after Typhoon Dolphin made landfall in Zhejiang province.
Two Battery Options Provide Up to 510 km Range
The A05 is available with 39.8 kWh and 53 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery packs.
The smaller battery provides a CLTC-rated range of up to 405 kilometres, while the larger pack increases the stated range to 510 kilometres.
The electric hatchback uses a single motor available with outputs of 70 kW or 90 kW. Both configurations have a top speed of 160 km/h.
The long-range version can charge from 30% to 80% in 16 minutes, according to Leapmotor.
LiDAR Available on Higher-Specification Version
Technology features are a significant part of the A05’s equipment. The vehicle is equipped with a Qualcomm 8295 cockpit chip, an 8.88-inch instrument display, a 14.6-inch central screen and a 12-speaker audio system.
The 510 LiDAR version, priced from 85,900 yuan, adds a LiDAR sensor and Qualcomm 8650 chip.
Leapmotor says the system supports 43 assisted driving functions, including door-to-door navigation. The company describes the A05 as the only premium hatchback in its segment to offer LiDAR and door-to-door driving assistance.

Compact Dimensions and Flexible Cargo Space
The A05 measures 4,200 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,560 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,605 mm.
The hatchback provides 474 litres of trunk space, increasing to 1,308 litres when the rear seats are folded.
For a limited period, Leapmotor is offering purchase benefits valued at up to 10,680 yuan, along with two years of interest-free financing and four lifetime free warranty items.
A05 Adds to Leapmotor’s A Platform
The A05 is the second model built on Leapmotor’s A platform after the A10 small SUV.
The A10 was launched in March with prices ranging from 65,800 yuan to 86,800 yuan. It recorded 26,424 deliveries in July, according to the company.
Leapmotor is positioning the A05 for urban commuting and is targeting younger female consumers as part of its positioning in the compact electric vehicle segment.
Leapmotor Targets Growth With New Model
The A05 arrives as Leapmotor continues to increase deliveries in China and overseas markets.
The company delivered 101,267 vehicles globally in July, an increase of 102.01% year on year and its first monthly total above 100,000 units.

For the first seven months of the year, Leapmotor delivered 457,754 vehicles. That represents roughly 46% of its 1 million-unit annual target, leaving the company with more than 108,000 vehicles to deliver per month over the remaining five months to reach that goal.
Competition Intensifies Below 100,000 Yuan
The A05 enters a highly competitive segment of China’s electric vehicle market, where several models are priced below 100,000 yuan.
Geely Auto’s Xingyuan led the segment in July with 32,306 units. Wuling’s Bingo Pro and Chery’s QQ3 EV each recorded more than 10,000 units during the month.
BYD’s Dolphin is another direct competitor. The model sold 34,910 units in July, an increase of 75.74% from a year earlier.
The A05 therefore enters a price-sensitive segment where Leapmotor will compete on range, equipment and driver assistance features as well as purchase price.
