BYD has unveiled the Sealion 7 at the Paris Motor Show, confirming its upcoming availability in Europe. This new SUV, characterized by its coupé-style roofline, is already available in China as the Sea Lion 07 and marks the eighth model BYD will offer in the European market.

With a length of 4.83 meters, the Sealion 7 is poised to compete in the fiercely contested mid-range SUV segment. “We’ve noticed demand for precisely this type of vehicle in Europe, so we’re delighted to introduce the Sealion 7 here in Paris. We are confident that its mix of SUV design and packaging, Blade Battery technology, range, performance, and generous specifications will appeal to many customers across Europe,” stated Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD.

She emphasized that the Sealion 7 reflects BYD’s responsiveness to regional customer preferences and its commitment to expanding its product lineup to cover essential vehicle types.

The Sealion 7 is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo, an upgraded version of the existing e-Platform 3.0. This new platform features a 12-in-1 electric drive system, enhancing the performance capabilities compared to the previous 8-in-1 system used in the BYD Seal.

Although precise specifications have yet to be disclosed for the European launch, it is anticipated that the all-wheel-drive version with dual motors can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 215 km/h.

Equipped with BYD’s proprietary Blade Battery technology, the Sealion 7 features large lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells that span the full width of the battery pack. The model utilizes a cell-to-body (CTB) design, integrating the battery pack into the vehicle’s structural components.

This approach enhances safety with a high-strength, honeycomb-like aluminum structure and provides significant torsional stiffness. Although specific details about energy density, energy content, or range have not been released, BYD has indicated a charging capacity of up to 230 kW and an energy content of “up to 91.3 kWh.”

The innovative construction and compact blade battery design contribute to a spacious interior, ensuring ample headroom despite the SUV’s sloped roofline. BYD has highlighted that the raised SUV design enhances cabin space and practicality, making it particularly appealing to European customers.

The model’s competitiveness will heavily rely on its pricing, which BYD plans to disclose in the coming weeks. Orders for the Sealion 7 will open in France in October, with initial deliveries expected later this year.
