BYD has officially launched the Seal 06 GT hatchback, targeting a younger demographic with its latest offering. The Seal 06 GT is a production version of the Ocean-M concept, which was unveiled at the Beijing auto show in late April, and marks the newest addition to BYD’s Ocean range.
Starting at RMB 136,800 ($19,260) and going up to RMB 186,800, the Seal 06 GT is priced lower than its initial pre-sale range of RMB 150,000 to RMB 200,000, which commenced on August 30. The hatchback is built on BYD’s advanced all-electric e-Platform 3.0 Evo and represents the brand’s first GT (Grand Tourer) model aimed at young consumers.
BYD is offering four variants of the Seal 06 GT, priced at RMB 136,800, RMB 146,800, RMB 162,800, and RMB 186,800. The vehicle measures 4,630 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,490 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. The highest-priced variant features a dual-motor four-wheel-drive system, while the remaining models are single-motor rear-wheel-drive versions.
The two lowest-priced variants are powered by a rear motor with peak power output of 160 kW and peak torque of 310 Nm, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. Another single-motor version delivers 165 kW of peak power and 330 Nm of peak torque, also achieving the same acceleration time. The dual-motor variant boasts a combined peak power of 310 kW and 510 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
The entry-level variants utilize a lithium iron phosphate blade battery pack with a capacity of 59.52 kWh, providing a CLTC range of 505 kilometers. The higher-priced variants feature blade batteries with capacities of 72.96 kWh, offering ranges of 605 km and 550 km, respectively. Fast charging capabilities allow the Seal 06 GT to charge from 30% to 80% in approximately 20 to 22 minutes.
Equipped with the DiPilot intelligent driving assistance system, the Seal 06 GT supports L2 assisted driving. BYD categorizes its models into the Ocean series and the Dynasty series, with the Ocean series primarily named after marine creatures and ships.
In September, the Ocean series sold 194,099 vehicles, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 38.8% and a 10.98% rise from August. In the first nine months of the year, sales of the Ocean series reached 1,263,442 vehicles, marking a 56.24% year-on-year growth. Since November 2021, cumulative sales of the Ocean series have surpassed 3.4 million units, underscoring BYD’s robust performance in the electric vehicle market.
