Brummer Logistik, a key player in the German-Austrian food logistics sector, has introduced its first electric trucks, marking a shift toward zero-emission transport following its acquisition by logistics giant Dachser in 2024. The company deployed twelve Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks in December, making it one of the first operators to receive the long-haul electric model.

The refrigerated transport specialist, which operates around 300 trucks, is initially focusing on medium-distance routes of up to 600 kilometers with en-route charging. “We want to deploy e-trucks primarily on medium-distance routes, covering up to 600 kilometers per round trip, including en-route charging,” said Max Reih, Managing Director of Brummer Logistik. While the company continues to use diesel-powered cooling units for its refrigerated trailers, tests with fully electric refrigeration systems—already underway in Dachser’s network—are planned for this year.

Brummer Logistik is also investing in charging infrastructure, installing eleven 400 kW high-power chargers and two mobile units at its Neuburg am Inn headquarters. Each electric truck currently has a dedicated charging point, though the company expects to adapt as its fleet expands.

Dachser, which now fully manages Brummer’s operations, has been expanding its own EV strategy, particularly in urban logistics. The company recently introduced its 100th electric truck, a 16-tonne Volvo FL Electric, in Hamburg. While its EV focus has largely been on city deliveries, Dachser is gaining experience in medium- and long-haul transport, including with a Volvo FH Electric in the Czech Republic.

“The deployment of the first eActros 600 in the Dachser network is another milestone for us in the transition to zero-emission drives,” said Alexander Tonn, COO Road Logistics at Dachser. The company plans to deploy an additional 14 eActros 600 trucks across six of its sites in the coming months, accelerating its push for sustainable transport solutions.
